- UFOs . . . AIR FORCE QUASHES RUMORS: An eight-month Air Force investigation
- into the half-century-old UFO incident concludes that whatever hit the ground
- near Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947 was NOT a flying saucer. Instead, says the
- 25-page report made public today, it was just a U.S. weather balloon. More
- specifically, a once top-secret balloon designed to monitor the atmosphere
- for evidence of Soviet nuclear tests. True believers may not be convinced:
- the Roswell incident was the basis of nearly 50 years worth of rumors about
- secret autopsies on space aliens, U.S. military conspiracies and flying
- saucer pieces under guard on an air base.
- GET ONE FOR THE KIDS: The Testor Corp. of Rockford, Illinois -- the model
- airplane company that has annoyed the Pentagon by offering accurate kits of
- secret government planes -- said today it's fashioning an alien flying saucer
- under study by the military. Look for the Area S4 UFO-model flying saucer,
- named for the highly secret U.S. military base in the mountains of Nevada,
- where, Testor claims, a dozen interstellar spacecraft may be stashed.
